movies and shows i like

i don't watch that many movies and shows to be honest

live-action

///movies:

shutter island, inception, and catch me if you can, for my di caprio trifecta of great movies. not even a fan of him or anything, it just turned out this way

the princess bride, because it is actually somehow one of if not the best book-to-movie adaptation ever made (and a great movie in-and-of-itself; that's just an extra point in its favour)

the prestige

the handmaiden; there is explicit sex in this one, so don't watch if you don't want that. the suspense, the twists, the everything. great.

annihilation

the man from u.n.c.l.e.

everything everywhere all at once made me cry a lot. i'm weak to stories about happiness being something you have to brute-force sometimes okay what else is there to say

rrr is so crazy good it's not even funny. i am in love with this movie because as much as i want to laugh at it for some scenes, i always find myself instead sitting slack-jawed in awe

arrival (2016). of course you're a linguistics student and you like arrival (2016).

matilda, just because

the lord of the rings series, because duh

the sherlock holmes robert downey jr. set of movies, because duh

zathura was jumanji for space kids

the devil wears prada

kingsman is good. i like the first one; the second one is fine

the batman was quite okay. not as much action as you'd think from a superhero movie but that makes it quite appealing imo. i like the vibe, and although some of the shots were quite Generic Let's Make Nice Cinematography and i think not much Theme was conveyed through it (still pretty though, and gets the noire vibe across). i enjoyed the character examination of mr man, and i think the romance with the cat lady was okay but quite rushed, and could have had far better build-up and link into the themes of mr man's character growth.

the marvel thor movies are all at least okay. i like the first one and the second one a bit because i like loki

now for a wildcard. hot gimmick: boy meets girl is the most insane movie i have ever seen. so many things happen. it just does not stop happening. it is not a good movie. but i have made two people watch this with me and every single person agrees that it is So Much. please watch. if you don't wanna watch it, watch the video that made me watch it (and then every other bad movies and a beat vid tbh)

///shows:

the untamed is actually pretty good; the novel was better, but this was not bad at all

hannibal

breaking bad is fantastic; it's hard to explain, but every single episode and scene has a kind of tension in which you can see exactly where something is gonna go (due to the characters being so well-written that you can see their thinking) but you can only sit and watch in agony.

better call saul is really good too, but it felt like it had less...punch (?) than breaking bad. a lot of "normal" scenes. love the general events and characters though, and when a scene is good it's good.

doctor who, of which i have seen from the 9th until the 11th. i like the 10th doctor because of course i do

obi-wan kenobi is actually an okay show. i like star wars just fine, but it is far too "fast-moving quick quick quick" action for me; my favourite parts are the more introspective and slow parts (most of which are in the prequels, funnily enough), so this show was like "star wars, but for me". not the best thing ever, of course i think a lot of reviews were not great because they were done by star wars fans, who probs came for Cool Action etc. the very first scene you see our hero you expect him to do something cool to stand up for the little man but he doesn't because of The Issues...pretty cool stuff.

suits is a show i started, but didn't finish; it was good though. maybe i will finish it sometime

animated

///movies:

atlantis: the lost empire was foundational to my development. of course you're a linguistics student and you watched atlantis: the lost empire as a child.

like nearly every barbie movie made not gonna lie. the fairytopia series and three musketeers go especially hard, but i like many others too

coraline

///shows:

over the garden wall is about a movie's length, but is a show, so goes here. i rewatch this nearly yearly. it is lovely

my little pony: friendship is magic highkey fucks. this isn't a joke so don't laugh

the netflix castlevania one is quite nice; haven't watched anything past the first season, though

gravity falls is great. i never finished, though, because it was still updating when i watched. got very close to the end, though. that time spent solving the end-of-episode ciphers was fun

chip 'n dale: rescue rangers was also something i watched a lot as a child. the russian dub, of course. i don't know what these rats sound like in english and i don't care. the scene where the lady rat is in a dress and tied up legitimately awakened something in me and to this day i don't know what that something was. other than that, good show i love Inventing TM

w.i.t.c.h. is a certified classic
